In 2019, our first year, we are offering ten awards in three categories to acknowledge the best clear communication in Australia. Our categories include The Gold judges’ choice award, four industry awards, and five product awards.

A panel of Australian and international plain language, good design and communication experts with years of combined experience in clear communication will judge each award category.

About the awards criteria
The best clear communication is a delicate balance. Our criteria guide our judges in their decision making.

Purpose

Does the entry have a clear purpose? Did the producer know what they were trying to achieve and did they do it?

Audience

Who is the audience? Has the entry been developed with their knowledge and skills in mind? Does it tell them what they want to know?
3

Format

Considering the entry's purpose and audience, is the format a good choice? Is it likely to appeal to the audience?

Plain language

Does the entry effectively use plain language principles such as language choice, structure and headings to assist the audience's understanding?

Design

Is the design of the entry appealing? Does it assist the audience to find the information that they need and aid understanding?
6

Evaluation

And finally, was the audience consulted to understand what they needed and wanted? Was the success of the entry evaluated after it was released? Were any changes made as a result?
